Leeds United also reached the fifth round as they overcame Plymouth Argyle 4-1 after extra time while Coventry City trounced Sheffield Wednesday 4-1.

World Cup: Trap shooters miss qualification mark

Indian shooters Bhowneesh Mendiratta and Zoravar Sandhu shot scores of 118 each to finish 16th and 19th, respectively, in the men’s trap qualifiers on Day 2 of the ongoing ISSF World Cup for shotgun in Rabat, Morocco. There was disappointment in women’s trap as well as Rajeshwari Kumari shot 113 to finish eighth. All six Indians, thus, bowed out of medal contention in both the events.

PKL: Inamdar guides Puneri to big win over Bengaluru

Already assured of a play-off berth, Puneri Paltan scored a commanding 40-31 win over Bengaluru Bulls in a Pro Kabaddi League match. Paltan’s Aslam Inamdar scored 11 points. In the day’s other game, Jaipur Pink Panthers beat Dabang Delhi 27-22. Jaipur’s Arjun Deshwal (10 points) was the top-scorer.

Ponting takes over as Washington head coach

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has been appointed head coach of Washington Freedom ahead of the second season of Major League Cricket in the United States, the MLC team said. Ponting has signed a two-year deal and takes over from compatriot Greg Shipperd. Four IPL franchises either own teams in MLC or have invested in the league.
