A hat-trick from Ollie Watkins helped Aston Villa to a stunning 7-2 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League yesterday. Villa narrowly avoided relegation last season and finished 64 points behind Liverpool, who conceded seven goals in a match in any competition for the first time since 1963.

Lahiri finishes tied-37th at Sanderson
Jackson (USA): Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to finish tied-37th at the Sanderson Farms Championship here. Lahiri needed a top-10 finish to get into the next event. He was in a good position at the halfway stage, but a 5-over 77 in the third round ruined his chances. Lahiri began his final round with four birdies in the first 10 holes, but the putts did not fall after that as he closed with a bogey on the 18th. His four-day total was 6-under. Sergio Garcia won his first PGA Tour title since his 2017 Masters victory. The Spaniard closed with a birdie on the 18th for a 5-under 67 and a total of 19-under to beat Peter Malnati (63) by one shot.
Shubhankar finishes tied-26th, Rai wins
North Berwick (Scotland): India’s Shubhankar Sharma rounded off the week with a 4-under 67 that saw him finish tied-26th at the Scottish Open here. It was Sharma’s best finish in his nine starts since the European Tour re-started after the coronavirus-induced break. His four-day total was 4-under. England’s Aaron Rai notched the biggest win of his career, beating world No. 14 Tommy Fleetwood in playoff. PTI
