18-year-old jilted lover attacks Class X girl with knife, bystanders jump into action

An 18-year-old Class XII student was arrested in Maharashtra’s Satara city after he allegedly attempted to attack a Class X schoolgirl with a knife over reported case of one-sided love.

According to the police, the accused who was identified as Aryan Waghmale, confronted the girl on her way home from school, following which he threatened her at knife point and tried to keep locals at bay by brandishing the weapon at them.

The incident took place at around 3.30 PM in Basappa Peth Karanje area.

Some bystanders with the help of two off-duty police personnel — who were fortunately close by — tried to intervene and stop the attack.

It was finally a doctor who took the accused by surprise as he was able to overpower him from behind and help rescue the girl. Once the girl was freed, the enraged crowd turned on the attacker and beat him up.

The video which has since gone viral received some strong reactions from the netizens.

Inspector SG Mhetre, Shahupuri Police Station, said, “The girl sustained a minor injury to her hand, and one local was also injured.”

According to preliminary investigation, the accused had been following the girl for several months despite her cutting off communication with him in January this year. It is also said that the jilted lover and the girl live in the same locality.
