'Bhai, ab envelope mein Rs 100 bhi nahi de sakte': Kerala man sticks QR code on shirt at daughter's wedding

Gift-giving is an important custom, and guests usually present shagun (blessings) in the form of cash-filled envelopes.

But one man from Kerala decided to take a digital approach. At his daughter’s wedding, he was seen wearing a Paytm QR code pasted on his shirt pocket so that guests could send their blessings via online payment.

The viral video begins with scenes of a colourful wedding celebration.

The camera then zooms in on the smiling man proudly pointing to the QR code as guests walk up and make digital transfers. The act reflects India’s growing shift towards digital transactions, even during deeply traditional events.

The unusual idea triggered a wave of reactions online. Some users found it hilarious and creative, while others disapproved.

“Bhai, ab envelope mein 100 bhi nahi de sakte (Now you can’t even give Rs 100 in an envelope),” one person joked.

“Bhai, saara paisa white mein (All the money is accounted for now),” another commented.

However, a few users criticised the gesture, calling it inappropriate and likening it to begging. One person, claiming to know the family, clarified that the stunt was meant as a light-hearted joke by the bride’s uncle and that those sending money were relatives.

The clip has sparked a lively conversation about how digital payments are transforming even the most traditional Indian customs.
