Former US President Donald Trump’s announcement to slash the electricity costs by half as an appeasement during an election rally at Michigan in the US has caught the attention of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who is often criticised for his ‘freebie politics’, with another party leader claiming that the idea was inspired by the Kejriwal government in Delhi.

The Republican presidential candidate said he would cut the energy and electricity prices by half within 12 months. In his speech, the ex-President said, “We will seriously expedite our environmental approvals, and quickly double our electricity capacity. This will drive down inflation, and make America and Michigan the best place on earth to build a factory.”

Reacting to Trump’s bold promise, former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal took to X, saying, “Trump has announced that he will reduce electricity rates by half. Free ki revri reached the US.”

AAP member and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadda also reacted to the announcement, saying, “Trump’s 50 per cent off on electricity bills shows how @ArvindKejriwal has set the benchmark for governance globally! His governance model — affordable electricity, free water, quality healthcare, and free world class education — is a shining example of welfarism done right. The world takes notice.”

Kejriwal was recently in the headlines after he challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide free electricity to all states under the BJP’s rule before the Delhi Assembly elections, saying he would campaign for the saffron party if they succeeded in launching a free power scheme.
