Pradeep, allegedly trying to steal a live goat, found himself trapped inside a leopard cage, courtesy of his own intoxication. The goat, set as bait to catch a leopard, also gave him company all night.
The Forest Department had set up the trap to catch a leopard that had attacked a woman in the area, killing her. However, Pradeep who was fueled by alcohol, spotted the goat and jumped into the cage.
It wasn't until the next morning that forest officials and villagers discovered a man, not a leopard, inside the cage. They were surprised, to say the least.
"Instead of catching a leopard, we caught a goat thief," said Forest Inspector Prashikshan Verma.
Forest Inspector Prashikshan Verma said that the accused, Pradeep, also cursed the forest department and police after being trapped in the cage. He was handed over to the Fakharpur police around 9 pm on Thursday. A case of attempted theft is being registered against him.
