Man claims wife has started speaking perfect Tamil after being ‘possessed’, bizarre leave request goes viral
In a strange turn of events, a man working in Chennai left his boss completely taken aback with the reason he gave for taking extended leave. He said he had to rush back to Nepal because, according to him, his wife had been “possessed by a ghost”.
The story came to light when someone shared it on X, where it quickly went viral due to its bizarre details. The post revealed that the man is employed as his car cleaner and had initially mentioned a family emergency. Sympathetic to his situation, the employer offered to help financially—until the man revealed the nature of the emergency, leaving him stunned. He said, “Mere wife ko chudail ne pakad liya hai (A ghost has possessed my wife)."
The employer already knew that the woman had a heart condition — a hole in her heart. However, her husband was adamant that her troubles weren’t just physical. He was convinced that something beyond the natural world was affecting her. What followed made the story even stranger.
“In the last 6 months, she’s started speaking fluent Tamil. Not a few words. Entire sentences. Almost like a native speaker. She’s never learned Tamil," the post said.
What made the situation even more unsettling was the claim that the woman had no exposure to Tamil due to their isolated Nepali community in Chennai, which made her newfound ability extremely difficult to explain for the employer.
The man had reportedly sought medical help from a government hospital, but doctors were unable to identify any medical cause for her strange behavior. Desperate for answers, he even turned to spiritual remedies, bringing her to a mosque where religious rituals were performed for two months, though with no improvement.
“The imam recently told him: “Take her back home. If she stays here, she may not survive." So, he’s leaving. And I’m still processing what I just heard," said the post in the end.
In a follow-up, the employer emphasized that his car cleaner is actually very sharp and intelligent, which made the story even more perplexing.
“I even got him a second-hand laptop. Last year, considering his intelligence, interest, and grasp for picking new things up, especially tech," he said.
The unusual account stirred up a wave of reactions on social media, with many users intrigued by the eerie and unexpected details.
One user replied to the post, saying, “The fluent Tamil factor is something even science can’t explain. I hope she recovers.”
Another comment said, “Seen a psychiatrist? A lot of such behaviours could stem from mental conditions. She may have had the condition for a while and has been quietly learning Tamil passively. Now some trigger has outwardly manifested the problem.”
Meanwhile, a third warned, “It's possible, but need to be careful of all the self-proclaimed poltergeists who will try to exorcise.”
