This sort of negligence can often turn life-threatening — a concern that has again come under spotlight after a video went viral online.
Shared by Navin Agrawal via his X account, the video shows a Kia being driven on the wrong side of road, putting others in a dangerous situation. Agrawal calls it the “new norm” in the city.
“Wrong side driving is a new norm in Bangalore. Even cars, buses and trucks–@BlrCityPolice, @blrcitytraffic, @DriveSmart_IN. This KIA driver was driving on the wrong side that too on the right most lane. This occurred in front of shell petrol pump in seegehalli Bangalore,” he wrote in the caption.
This post has sparked outrage among people on social media who blame the “not-so-strict punishments” for such violations.
“We need to take so much effort to report these for action from police. All this for Rs 500 fine,” commented a user. “No fear of law, we need higher penalties & punishment,” said another. While one said, “Wrong side driving in Bengaluru is quite rampant. Almost at every signal it happens. Especially the delivery vehicles always drive on wrong side, don't stop at signals.”
