Since it is one of the most hectic periods for chartered accountants, the government’s refusal for extension of the deadline to file the returns, only added to their woes.

However, over all the last minute hush and frenzy, stressed netizens set Twitter abuzz with hilarious memes in the hour of panic.

Hashtag ‘ITRFiling’ was among the top trends on Sunday inspiring funny memes online.

Read a few memes by taxpayers venting their frustration:

Netizens had demanded an extension for filing the income tax returns citing technical glitches on the e-filing portal taking eons to load. A hashtag ‘Extend_Due_Date_Immediately’ was also trending on Twitter over the weekend.

However, the Centre did not pay heed to their requests. Those who missed the deadline could still file the returns but with an additional penalty fee.
