In a bizarre display of luxury branding, Prada has launched a safety pin brooch priced at a whopping $775 (approximately Rs 68,758). The brooch features a simple metal safety pin with knitted-thread detail and a tiny Prada charm, leaving many to wonder what justifies the hefty price tag.

The luxury fashion brand is known for selling high-end accessories, but this particular item has raised eyebrows. With no rare gems or diamonds to justify the price, the safety pin brooch seems to be a case of branding gone wild.

This isn't the first time Prada has faced backlash for its designs. Just a few months ago, the brand faced criticism for culturally appropriating the traditional Kolhapuri footwear. Now, it seems Prada is under fire again for putting a luxury spin on a humble staple found in many Indian households – the safety pin.

The Internet has been quick to react to Prada's latest offering, with many mocking the absurdity of the price.

A fashion influencer, Black Swan Sazy, took to Instagram to poke fun at the product, saying, "I will once again ask rich people what it is that you are doing with your money. Because if you can't think of anything, I assure you the rest of us can."

Many users have chimed in, with one commenting, "I could make that?? Without the Prada key bit, but I could still make it." Another user slammed the product, saying, "My grandma could do it better."

The backlash has been so intense that the link to the product on Prada's website seems to be broken, leading one to wonder if the brand is rethinking its decision.

In contrast, safety pins are a staple in many Indian households, where they are used to keep clothes together and are often carried in handbags for emergencies. They're affordable, practical and reusable – a far cry from Prada's luxury item.
