She’s clucking amazing! 14-year-old Pearl smashes chicken lifespan record

A remarkable hen named ‘Pearl’ from Texas, US, has officially defied the odds by becoming the world’s oldest chicken, as recognised by Guinness World Records.

Hatched in March 2011 at her Little Elm house, Pearl reached an astonishing age of 14 years and 69 days in May this year, far surpassing the typical lifespan of three-10 years for domestic chickens.

Despite facing significant health challenges, including a broken leg, a racoon attack, arthritis and chicken pox, Pearl has lived a life of comfort, now residing indoors with her owners Sonya Hull and her animal companions, a cat and a kitten, where she snuggles a mop and enjoys brief outdoor excursions.

During her youth, Pearl lived in an outdoor coop with other chickens, but as old age reduced her mobility, Sonya made Pearl a space in the laundry room for the elderly hen to live out her days peacefully.
