‘Tumhari ragon mein angrez…’: Javed Akhtar slams trolls over remarks after Virat’s show against Pakistan in Champions Trophy
Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar joined millions in celebrating India’s six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday. However, a social media user’s communal remarks on his post praising Virat Kohli turned his joyous moment confrontational.
Following the match, Akhtar took to X to congratulate Kohli for his century. He wrote, “Virat Kohli, zindabad (long live)!!! We all are so proud of you!!!” To this, a troll wrote, “Javed. Babar ka baap Kohli hai (Kohli is Babar’s father). Bolo (say), Jai Shree Ram.”
Not one to remain silent in the face of hate speech, Akhtar fired back, saying, “Main toh sirf yeh kahoonga ke tum eik neech insaan ho aur neech hee marogay. Tum kya jano desh prem kya hota hai (I will only say that you are a vile person and will remain one. You do not understand what patriotism is).”
Another user took a dig at him, writing, “Aj suraj kaha se nikla. Andar se dukh hoga apko toh (Where has the sun risen from today? You must be feeling sad inside).” In response, Akhtar wrote, “Beta jab tumhare baap dada angrez ke jootay chaat rahe thay, tab mere aazadi ke liye jail aur Kala Paani mein thay. Meri ragon mein desh premion ka khoon hai aur tumhari ragon mein angrez ke naukaron ka khoon hai. Iss antar ko bhoolo nahin (Son, when your ancestors were licking British boots, mine were fighting for freedom in jails and at Kala Pani. My veins carry the blood of patriots, while yours carry that of British servants. Don’t forget this difference).”
India’s victory against Pakistan at Champions Trophy 2025
In a Group A clash of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, India delivered a commanding performance to defeat Pakistan by six wickets. Pakistan, opting to bat first, set a target of 241 runs, with Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) contributing crucial knocks. However, India’s bowling attack, led by Kuldeep Yadav’s 3-40, kept Pakistan’s total in check.
Chasing 242, India cruised to victory in just 42.3 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century and Shreyas Iyer’s 56. The win marked India’s second consecutive triumph in the tournament.
