Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned unexpectedly last night, officially citing health reasons.

However, the Congress, Opposition and social media suggests his decision followed a reported tense clash with the Centre over an Opposition-backed motion to impeach Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma, after a major cash seizure at the judge’s residence.

As Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar accepted the motion—reportedly upsetting the government, which wanted to take the lead on the issue.

Media report says a heated phone exchange with the Centre allegedly followed, with Dhankhar asserting his constitutional powers. Faced with a potential no-confidence motion, insiders say he stepped down to avoid political embarrassment.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut says, "Big politics is going on behind the scenes", while Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Akhilesh Prasad Singh says, "I met him at 5:30 pm, and he was in a good mood."
