The emotional reunion was made possible under the state’s ongoing initiative, ‘Operation Muskan’.
Fulmati, now 57 years old, was just eight when she was abducted during a visit to a fair in Moradabad in 1975. According to police, an elderly man took her away and later sold her to a Rampur resident. Despite building a life there, Fulmati never stopped searching for her family.
The case resurfaced on December 19, when Dr Pooja Rani, a school teacher from Rampur, alerted Additional SP Shailendra Lal about Fulmati’s long-standing search. Fulmati had shared her story and her desire to find her relatives with the teacher.
A police team, acting on Fulmati’s memories of her maternal uncle Ramchander and their home, tracked down her village in Mau district. Ramhit, her uncle, confirmed she was the missing girl from 1975. Further investigation led to the discovery of her brother, Laldhar, living in Bedpur village, Azamgarh.
After confirming her identity, the police arranged for Fulmati’s emotional reunion with her family.
Superintendent of Police Hemraj Meena hailed the success of ‘Operation Muskan’, saying, “This reunion is the result of focused efforts to trace missing persons. It was heart-warming to see the family together after so many years.”
Fulmati and her family expressed gratitude to the police for their dedication, while locals praised the authorities.
The case is being seen as a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement under ‘Operation Muskan’, a statewide initiative aimed at recovering missing children.
