The UK Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttarakhand Government to offer up to five fully funded scholarships in the state for the next three years.

It was signed in Dehradun in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and British Deputy High Commissioner, Chandigarh, Caroline Rowett.

The agreement will see up to five Uttarakhand scholars, each year, receive full financial support to pursue a one-year master’s in the UK as part of the Chevening scholarships and fellowships programme.

“The UK is an excellent place to study, and I am pleased that our partnership with the Government of Uttarakhand will enable more young people to experience it,” said Rowett.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
