Once the bill gets the governor’s nod, the BJP-ruled Uttarakhand will become the first state in India to enact a uniform civil code (UCC) law.

Earlier, the expert committee constituted to examine the issue presented its report to the state government.

The draft law based on the panel’s proposals was finalised, approved by the state Cabinet and tabled in the special Assembly session.
