“By any means, we will bring out brave workers trapped in Silkyara tunnel,” NDMA member Lt Gen (retd) Syed Ata Hasnain said as the operation to evacuate trapped workers entered in the last phase.

NDMA officials added that all post-evacuation arrangements are in place at the tunnel.

Rescuers are optimistic about completing the mission to rescue the 41 trapped workers from a tunnel in Silkyara, Uttarkashi, by Friday evening.

Friday marks the 13th day of the rescue operations.

The officials claimed that the hurdles created by the steel bars and girder have already been cleared and they would resume drilling to complete the remaining 10-metre distance.

“As per our calculations, we are hopeful of completing the operation by 6 pm on Friday,” said former adviser to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Bhaskar Khulbe.

He said the auger machine is working well and the trapped workers are in good health.

Meanwhile, the NDRF teams have held a demonstration of the wheeled stretchers through the pipeline as this will be used for rescue of workers.

The officials have made arrangements of 41 ambulances which are stationed near the tunnel and they will rush the workers to a 41-bed medical facility created at a local government hospital in Chinyalisore. With PTI inputs
