Karachi, December 18

At least 16 persons were killed and 15 others injured in Karachi on Saturday when a blast ripped through a private bank building.

The blast was apparently triggered by a gas explosion in a covered sewage channel on which the building was situated.

Most of the victims were reportedly customers and staff present inside the HBL building in the city’s Shershah area.

Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab said an investigation was underway to ascertain the cause of the blast. PTI

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
