In a video posted online — translated from Portuguese — Larissa expressed shock and amusement upon learning that her old photograph was being used to represent an Indian voter.
“Guys, I can’t believe this gossip,” she said. “They’re using an old photo of mine; I must have been about 18 or 20 in that picture. They’re portraying me as Indian to scam people. What madness! What craziness is this, what world do we live in?”
The controversy erupted after Indian fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared a video highlighting that the photograph shown in Gandhi’s presser did not belong to an Indian citizen. The revelation sparked widespread discussion online, with social media users mocking the mix-up and questioning how the image became linked to Indian voter identification records.
Hours later, Larissa addressed the situation in a lighthearted video, confirming that the viral photo was indeed hers. Clearly surprised by the attention, the model revealed that she had started receiving calls from journalists soon after the incident went viral.
“A reporter even called the salon where I work, trying to talk to me for an interview,” Larissa added. “Then he found my Instagram and tried to contact me there. Oh my God, what craziness!”
She also shared that friends from other cities had sent her the viral images, expressing disbelief at how far the story had spread.
According to independent searches, the original photograph of Larissa was taken by Matheus Ferrero, a Brazilian photographer known for his portraits and fashion photography, which are available on platforms like Unsplash.
Screenshots of Larissa’s reaction and her social media posts have since gone viral.
