Houston: A 24-year-old man in Texas who filmed himself licking ice cream and putting it back in the freezer of a Walmart supermarket has been jailed for 30 days and fined USD 1,000, according to US media reports. The video of D’Adrien Anderson licking the ice cream was shared on social media last August. After the video went viral, several health and safety questions were raised. The clip received over 157,000 views on Facebook before it was taken down, The Port Arthur News reported on Wednesday. PTI

Cairo: Egypt reopened the 4,700-year-old Step Pyramid of Djoser after a 14 year-long restoration work. Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli said, “We wanted here to open and to present it to the world to say that we have been able successfully to restore it and rehabilitate it and it will be ready to receive anybody from all over the world.” IANS

Nazi photo album made of human skin found in Poland

Warsaw: A photo album made from the skin of a Nazi extermination camp prisoner was spotted in an antiques market in Poland by a collector, who noticed the cover had a “tattoo, human hair and a bad smell”, it was reported. The collector bought it and handed it to staff at the Auschwitz Memorial Museum who said that it was “without doubt proof of a crime against humanity”, the Metro newspaper said in a report on Thursday. Look beyond veil, says Israel’s 1st hijab-wearing lawmaker

Nazareth: A Muslim lawmaker from Israel’s Arab minority is set to become the first in parliament to wear a hijab, or headscarf, after Arab parties won their largest ever showing in this week’s election. Iman Yassin Khatib, 55, said, “What’s more important is what is inside: the ability and potential to advance our community.” Reuters
