Port Louis [Mauritius], March 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid homage to Former Prime Minister of Mauritius Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and former President of Mauritius Anerood Jugnauth at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, Pamplemousses, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal said that PM Modi planted a Bael sapling in the garden, contributing to the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative alongwith Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.

In a post on X, Jaiswal said, "A moment of remembrance! PM Narendra Modi, accompanied by PM Navin Ramgoolam paid homage to the two towering leaders of Mauritian history--Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam & Sir Anerood Jugnauth--at the iconic Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, Pamplemousses. Reinforcing joint commitment to a green future, PM & PM Navin Ramgoolam planted a Bael sapling in the garden, contributing to the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative."

PM Modi said in a post on X, "Paid homage to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Sir Anerood Jugnauth, two great leaders who have made indelible contributions to Mauritius' progress."

The garden is dedicated to the biodiversity conservation efforts of Mauritius. PM Modi said he was humbled by the gesture of Mauritius PM Ramgoolam taking part in 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.

In a post on X, he said, "Humbled by the heartfelt gesture of my friend, Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, in taking part in 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'--a tribute to nature, motherhood and sustainability. His support stands tall as a symbol of our shared commitment to a greener and better future."

After this visit, PM Modi has a meeting with the President of Mauritius, Dharam Gokhool who will also be hosting a state lunch in his honor. Around evening, he will address the Indian community diaspora here in Mauritius along with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, as was stated by Jaiswal.

In the evening, he has a meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius Ramgoolam. Wednesday will be a big day, as it is the National Day of Mauritius. Prime Minister Modi will be participating as a chief guest in the national celebrations of their Independence Day. (ANI)
