Indonesia tremor kills 34

A strong earthquake shook Indonesia’s Sulawesi island after midnight, toppling homes and buildings, triggering landslides and killing at least 34 people.

The 6.2-magnitude quake injured 600 people. There are reports of many people trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Authorities are still assessing the full scale of casualties and damage in the affected areas. The quake was centred 36 km south of West Sulawesi provinces in Mamuju district, at a depth of 18 km, the US Geological Survey said.
