The United Nations has urged Pakistan to "fully uphold" the human rights and due-process protections of jailed former PM Imran Khan, amid growing global concern over his welfare and continued inaccessibility to his family and legal team.

UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq reiterated that the world body expected Islamabad to ensure fair trial safeguards and humane treatment, especially in politically sensitive cases. The reminder comes as speculation over Khan's health has intensified in recent days.

Khan's son, Kasim sparked alarm this week after claiming on social media that the former PM had been kept in near-total isolation for weeks, with no family contact and no proof of life. He alleged that his father was being held in a “death cell”. In a strongly worded appeal, he said, “Let it be clear: the Pakistani government and its handlers will be held fully accountable legally, morally and internationally for my father's safety and for every consequence of this inhumane isolation.”
