The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has endorsed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and approved the deployment of an international stabilisation force in the enclave, a move Washington says could set Gaza on a path to lasting calm.

The US-drafted resolution was adopted with 13 votes in favour and none against, while China and Russia abstained. The decision signals the council’s endorsement of Trump’s ‘Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict’, revealed in September, which envisions Gaza as a “deradicalised, terror-free zone” rebuilt with international funding and oversight.

Trump celebrated the vote online, calling it “a moment of true historic proportion” and asserting that it would be remembered as one of the UN’s most consequential approvals. He said the outcome showed global support for the new transitional administration — the Board of Peace.
