Chairman of Indian multinational company L&T SN Subrahmanyan is facing a huge social media backlash after his comments advocating 90 hours a week for his employees including Sundays. What has caused further embarrassment for the chairman is that some of his comments made at an internal meeting of the company were seen as sexist. One of the comments was: “What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife?” The comments sparked comparisons to Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy’s earlier suggestion of a 70-hour work week for young Indians. Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone was among the first to react, calling the statement “shocking” on her Instagram handle.
