Massive landslides hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas in Wayanad district of Kerala on July 30. A day after tragic incident, soldiers and rescuers working through slush and rain, looking for survivors and searching for bodies. Following the incident, various teams of NDRF, SDRF, and columns of Army, Air Force and Indian Navy swung into action. A total of 1200 rescue workers from the Indian Army, DSC Centre, Territorial Army, NDRF, Indian Navy, and IAF are deployed. Efforts are being made to provide immediate relief and support to the local population affected by the disaster. As per the Kerala Revenue Department, the massive landslide has claimed lives of 158, and nearly 1,000 people have been rescued. As per authorities, two massive landslides struck Kerala's Wayanad, first occurred in Mundakkai, a town, and the second in Chooralmala. The massive landslides wreaked havoc, burying houses and roads, uprooting trees, leaving a trail of destruction. The Indian Army's Southern Command has also begun preparations for erecting a bridge on Meppadi-Chooralmala Road. According to Indian Army, the worst phase is over, but in final stage, efforts have intensified to trace survivors at difficult locations. Kerala declared a two-day state mourning after the incident; it was the worst disaster in the state since deadly floods in 2018. #wayanad #NDRF #rescueoperation
