In a high-octane midnight drama, police today cracked down on Ramdev and thousands of his supporters forcibly shutting their hunger strike against black money, triggering a political war between the government and the Sangh Parivar, including BJP.

Haridwar, June 5
Angry at the disruption of his hunger strike, Baba Ramdev today lashed out at the government and targeted Sonia Gandhi over the “police barbarism” on his supporters while threatening a nationwide agitation. Ramdev, who was flown from New Delhi to Jollygrant airport in a special aircraft this morning, came back to his Patanjali Yog Peeth at 11.30 am. He was received by senior police officials at the airport and then traveled towards Haridwar in a car. He was alone when he alighted from the special aircraft.

The Delhi police claimed the action to evacuate Ramdev from the venue was necessary because of intelligence inputs about the threat to his life. “There were intelligence inputs about threat to his life and hence, we had to remove him immediately,” said Dharmender Kumar, Special Commissioner (Law and Order), while addressing a press conference today evening.
