AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh release UPA-II’s report card in New Delhi. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has achieved an unprecedented distinction of leading two successive coalition governments at the Centre, today underscored four pillars through which his government sought to make a difference to the country’s fortunes.

Stamping its supremacy, the Shiromani Akali Dal - BJP combine won 299 out of the 331 seats in the Zila Parishad elections. The compiled list, released today, showed that the SAD-BJP romped home in as many as 2,122 out of 2,739 results for the Panchayat Samiti elections.

Mumbai, May 22
The son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan is likely to be quizzed by the police in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal. Late wrestler-actor Dara Singh’s son Vindoo, who was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch, told investigators that he was in regular contact with Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of Srinivasan and CEO of the Chennai Super Kings IPL team.

Iron pill trouble: 133 kids fall ill in 2 Haryana dists
Sirsa/Fatehabad, May 22
At least 133 schoolchildren have taken ill in Sirsa and Fatehabad districts of Haryana after consuming iron and folic acid tablets. While 100 students were taken ill in different schools located in the area of the Community Health Centre, Baragura, in Sirsa yesterday, 25 children of Phulo village were hospitalised after they complained of pain in abdomen, nausea and vomiting today.

RIL bags strategic military aviation tie-up with Boeing
US aerospace major to source 30% of its components from Reliance

India’s one of the richest businessman Mukesh Ambani’s $76 billion Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has bagged a strategic military aviation tie-up with the leading US aerospace company, Boeing, in the field of offsets. That means Boeing will be sourcing 30% of its components worth hundreds of crores of rupees from the RIL.

India, Uzbekistan to oppose outside interference
Vice-President Hamid Ansari pays floral tributes at the memorial of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent on WednesdayIndia and Uzbekistan on Wednesday resolved to work jointly for peace and development in Afghanistan. The two countries said any external interference in Afghanistan would be “counter-productive” and if any such eventuality arose, they would resist it by taking up the matter at various international forums.
