First phase of the panchayat poll for 17,242 sarpanches and 42,704 panches under the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) in Rajasthan will be held on Friday.

The first phase would cover 2,726 gram panchayats in 31 districts. The voting will be held from 8 am to 5 pm.

During the nomination process for the first phase, 36 sarpanches and 11,035 panches have already been elected unopposed, State Election Commission (RSEC) Secretary Shyamsingh Rajpurohit said on Thursday.

Altogether 9,171 sarpanches and 90,400 panches (Panchayat Samiti member) would be elected in three phase polls scheduled on January 17, 22, & 29.

Over 30.88 lakh electors would exercise their franchise at 34,525 polling booths in all three phases and EVMs would be used where ever possible, the Secretary said.
