Intelligence agencies have uncovered a wider terror plot linked to the recent deadly car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed 13 people. According to sources, the accused had planned to ready around 32 vehicles packed with explosives to carry out coordinated attacks across multiple locations.
Investigators revealed that the suspects had already begun modifying an i20 and an EcoSport for use in the planned explosions. Agencies are now probing whether other vehicles were being prepared as part of a larger conspiracy to execute serial blasts. “After the i20 and EcoSport, we found evidence suggesting preparations were underway to fit explosives into 32 more vehicles,” an intelligence official told ANI.
Sources said eight suspects were allegedly planning to trigger coordinated explosions at four locations, with each pair of operatives assigned to a target city. Preliminary findings suggest that each team intended to carry multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for simultaneous attacks.
Meanwhile, PTI reported that, according to an official, the doctors arrested in connection with the “white-collar terror module” had raised more than Rs 26 lakh to procure materials used in the deadly blast.
The four suspects -- Dr Muzammil Ganaie, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Shaheen Sayeed and Dr Umar Nabi -- had pooled in the amount in cash, which was handed over to Dr Umar for safekeeping and operational use, they said.
Investigators believe the fund was linked to a larger terror conspiracy. Using the pooled money, the group had allegedly purchased around 26 quintals of NPK fertiliser approximately worth Rs 3 lakh from suppliers in Gurugram, Nuh and nearby towns.

Faridabad police have detained a man identified as Faheem, who allegedly parked the red Ford EcoSport linked to the recent Delhi blast in the Khandwali area, officials said on Thursday. According to intelligence agency sources, Faheem is a relative of the prime suspect, Dr Umar Un Nabi, and was reportedly in touch with him before the incident.

Nine more people have been arrested in Assam for putting up "offensive" social media posts following the Delhi blast, taking the total number of apprehensions in this regard to 15, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday. The CM on Wednesday said he has instructed the police to arrest those who have welcomed the blast in their social media posts. He said 35 people from different districts of the state have been identified in this connection. "We will investigate their links and if we find that anyone has links with Bangladesh or anyone other country, we will take very tough action against them," the CM said.

The fertiliser, mixed with other chemicals, is commonly used to manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), officials said. Police sources said the group's procurement of such a large quantity of the fertiliser has become a key lead in the ongoing investigation. The financial transactions and delivery records are being verified, they said. Sources also said that Umar and Muzammil had a disagreement over the handling of funds in the days leading up to the explosion. The investigators are looking into whether this dispute affected the group's plans or the timing of the attack.

Multiple security agencies are on the lookout for a third car believed to be linked to the Red Fort blast case, police sources said on Thursday. While a white Hyundai i20 exploded near Red Fort on Monday evening, investigators later traced a second vehicle -- a red Ford EcoSport -- to Faridabad. However, a third car, suspected to be a Maruti Brezza, remains untraced. "The missing third car is suspected to have been used by the accused for reconnaissance or escape. Multiple teams are looking for the third car," said the source. Searches are being carried out in Delhi-NCR and adjoining states to locate the Maruti Brezza, he said. PTI

Investigators also found that Umar had created a private Signal app group with two to four members to coordinate the activities securely. According to ANI, Dr Muzammil was radicalised between 2021 and 2022 after coming into contact with associates of slain members of Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind, an ISIS offshoot. The module was reportedly stockpiling weapons since 2023, aiming to establish an independent terror outfit.

The death toll rose to 13 after another injured person succumbed to his injuries at the LNJP Hospital here, an official said. The deceased has been identified as Bilal, he said. According to Delhi Police, information about Bilal's death was received from the hospital early on Thursday morning. The post-mortem will be conducted later in the day, officials said. With Bilal's death, the total number of fatalities in the high-intensity explosion on Monday evening has climbed to 13, while several others remain under treatment. PTI

The DNA test of samples collected from the Red Fort blast site has confirmed that Dr Umar Nabi was driving the car that exploded there early this week, police sources said Thursday. The DNA samples of Umar's mother were collected on Tuesday and sent here for examination, the sources said, adding that they were analysed along with the remains gathered from the blast site. Umar was a key member of a "white collar" terror module busted earlier this week. He hails from Koil village in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama.
