The first edition of Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon was conducted at No.3 Base Repair Depot (3BRD) here today to commemorate the 93rd anniversary of the IAF as well as to pay tributes to Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Air Force recipient of the Param Vir Chakra.

Sekhon was decorated with India’s highest wartime gallantry award for his unmatched courage during the 1971 Indo-Pak War in aerial combat over Srinagar. The marathon celebrates the valor, discipline and spirit of the IAF while promoting fitness and unity across the nation.

Air Commodore Nipun Gupta, Air Officer Commanding, 3BRD, flagged off the run. Approximately 550 participants, including Air Force personnel, their families and civilians of all ages of Chandigarh and nearby areas participated in 5 km, 10 km and 21 km categories.
