Coronavirus: 88 linked to infected man to be screened

The Delhi Government will conduct screening of 88 identified people who came in contact with Mayur Vihar resident infected with Covid-19.

The Mayur Vihar resident presently admitted to Safdarjung Hospital had travelled from Italy to Budapest and then from Vienna to Delhi. He is the first confirmed patient of the deadly disease in the Capital.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said: “We have identified 88 persons who he came in contact with the individual after he returned to India. We are trying to conduct screening of all those 88 identified people.”

Meanwhile, the sale and demand of surgical mask have gone up in the Capital following the outbreak. People are coming in large numbers to purchase masks. Masks are available for Rs 5 to Rs 125 a piece. At certain places, shortage of such masks is being reported.

“The sale of masks has gone up. People are asking for masks, but we don’t have these in stock. We are also waiting for the supply,” said Raj Bhardwaj, owner of a medical store near GTB Hospital. “I am buying packs of N-95 masks for my family. It is always good to take precaution,” said Rizin, a resident.

“There has been a surge in the demand and sale of masks and hand sanitisers,” said Arvind Yadav, a pharmacist at Timarpur. “The government has sufficient number of masks. However, we will look into the matter of shortage. We will get it checked,” said Kejriwal. — TNS
