Pakistani activist who was honoured with Nobel Peace Prize, Malala Yousafzai, was 11 when she first grabbed attention through her diary, which she wrote under a pseudonym Gul Makai — the name of a heroine from a Pashtun folk tale. Her blogs depicted life under Taliban rule from her hometown of Mingora in the northwest region of Pakistan. Now, her journey will be showcased on big screen in director H.E. Amjad Khan’s movie Gul Makai. The movie showcase the early life of Malala and the cruel environment the Swat Valley transformed into after Taliban domination.

Shared Amjad, “We hope the story of Malala Yousafzai reaches people across the world through our film, so they realise how difficult it was for some children to even get access to education. My thought is to convey a message that every girl or boy deserves to go to school. It’s their fundamental right. The movie will likewise showcase how Malala has spoken in favour of girls’ education, and highlighted the atrocities of Taliban. It will also show the support Malala received from her parents. The film is set to release on January 31, 2020.
