To intensify the struggle for the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), the Old Pension Front, Amritsar, under the leadership of its Majha zone convener Gurbinder Singh Khaira, staged a protest at the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters, Bhandari Bridg. A protest letter was sent in this regard to the Punjab Chief Minister through Iqbal Singh Bhullar of the AAP. A large number of employees from across the district participated in the protest. Later, a letter was given to the MLA to protest against government’s failure to implement the Old Pension Scheme.

Khaira said even three years after the “paper notification” issued by the Punjab Government on November 18, 2022, the issue of old pension was still pending. College teachers too seem to have opened a front against the non-implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations. The district unit members of the Punjab and Chandigarh College and Universities Teachers Union (PCCTU) have been sitting on dharna against the non-implementation of the panel recommendations. “Some of us are about to retire and will be denied financial benefits of the pay panel,” said Gurdas Sekhon, who retired from DAV College, Hathi Gate today.
