The Haryana Cabinet today condemned the resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly on denying water to Haryana.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said Punjab was indulging in petty politics over the water distribution issue. He said earlier, Punjab had passed a resolution in its Vidhan Sabha regarding the SYL issue, disregarding the decision of the Supreme Court.

Water was a natural resource and a national heritage, he added.

“Even today, the Mann government passed a resolution in the Vidhan Sabha, refusing to give Haryana its rightful share of drinking water. This act is unethical and goes against the federal structure of India,” said Saini, addressing the media after presiding over the Cabinet meeting.

He said the Punjab Vidhan Sabha resolution passed today also went against the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. Saini said both the Congress and AAP were part of INDIA alliance. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should respect the Constitution. "He often carries the Constitution from village to village, he should uphold its spirit too," he said.

Saying Punjab and Haryana were one state before 1966, Saini came down heavily on the Mann government. Just as people of Punjab had shown the door to the Congress, they would do the same with the AAP, he claimed, adding that the BBMB was an autonomous body and operated under the Centre.
