JJP plans Chautala's photo on posters, INLD unhappy
The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) has announced a significant symbolic move that has stirred political controversy within the Chautala family. Addressing party workers at his residence in Sirsa on Saturday, former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said all future posters and banners of the party would include a photograph of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, alongside icons like Dr BR Ambedkar, Chaudhary Devi Lal, Sir Chhotu Ram and Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
The decision, taken at a key meeting chaired by JJP national president Ajay Singh Chautala in Rohtak on Friday, has triggered sharp reactions from Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) national president Abhay Singh Chautala.
“If they (JJP) put OP Chautala’s photo, I have a shoe on my foot,” Abhay said, signaling a deepening divide within the family over the legacy of the senior Chautala.
Dushyant emphasised the emotional and ideological importance of OP Chautala to the JJP cadre. He said the inclusion of the former CM’s image was meant to honour his contributions and to guide the new generation of party workers.
He also informed that JJP is strengthening its organisational base across Haryana, with announcements of new halka (constituency-level) presidents expected soon. A new state headquarters has been established near the Rohtak bus stand, where party events will be held on the 5th and 20th of every month.
In addition to internal developments, Dushyant raised concerns over the worsening water crisis in Haryana. He announced that a high-level 11-member JJP committee, under the leadership of Ajay Singh Chautala and state president Brij Sharma, will soon meet with the Governors of Haryana and Punjab, as well as Union ministers, to demand Haryana's rightful share of water from the Bhakra and SYL canals.
He warned that if the issue remains unresolved, the party will consider taking stronger measures to ensure water justice for the state.
