Addressing the gathering, Agnihotri emphasised the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades at the institute, citing its deteriorating condition. He said Rs 5 crore has already been sanctioned by the Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University to initiate the refurbishment. The Deputy CM highlighted that the institute building had also served as the Chief Minister’s residence, further underscoring its historical and administrative importance.

“Our goal is to improve the infrastructure so that students here can achieve greater heights and bring glory to the state and nation,” said Agnihotri. He commended HPUILS for its role in shaping future advocates, judicial officers, administrators and political leaders, noting that 12 to 14 current MLAs in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly are alumni of the university.

Agnihotri also praised the faculty for their contributions in building a strong academic reputation, both within the state and across the country. Encouraging students to work hard and respect their teachers, he stressed their role in contributing to state and national development.

Sharing a personal connection, the Deputy CM mentioned that his late wife, Professor Simmi Agnihotri, had served at the university for nearly 28 years, while his daughter, Dr. Aastha Agnihotri, is currently a faculty member at HPUILS.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to inclusive development, he highlighted efforts to expand educational institutions across Himachal Pradesh and paid tribute to former Chief Ministers Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar and Virbhadra Singh for their visionary contributions.

During the ceremony, Agnihotri released Vidhi Volume 2, the official newsletter of UILS, congratulated the event organisers, and felicitated students who excelled in various competitions. The event concluded with vibrant cultural performances by university students.
