Ashoka varsity Prof to spend one more night in Sonepat jail
Ashoka University’s Associate Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad has to spent one more night in the Sonepat district jail, even though the Supreme Court granted him interim bail on Wednesday. The apex court orders reached Sonepat late in the evening.
Further proceedings will be undertaken tomorrow, after which he will be released.
After his arrest, the police had produced him in the court, which sent him to two-day police custody.
On Tuesday, after the completion of the remand, the Rai police produced him in the court, which sent him to judicial custody.
Professor's lawyer Kapil Dev Balyan said the local court proceedings for the release of any person on bail were time-consuming. He said the Professor was well and getting medicines on time, but he was concerned about his wife, as she was due for delivery and no one was there to take care of her, the advocate said.
Meanwhile, the university said in a statement, "We are relieved and heartened by Prof Ali Khan Mahmudabad being granted interim bail by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. It has provided great comfort to his family and all of us at Ashoka University."
