Taking decisive action after severe waterlogging near Minto Bridge following heavy rain on May 24, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday ordered the suspension of the Public Works Department (PWD) Junior Engineer (Electrical) for negligence.

A show cause notice has been served on the Assistant Engineer (Electrical), who has been asked to respond within 48 hours, while a formal explanation has also been sought from the Executive Engineer.

The Chief Minister said the government would not tolerate administrative lapses that affect public life, emphasising that all officials must be accountable for their duties. “Negligence in delivering essential public services will not be tolerated,” she stated.

Despite earlier warnings, the officials concerned allegedly failed to implement preventive measures to avoid water accumulation in the low-lying area, which led to disruption for commuters and local residents.

The CM has directed all departments to ensure that robust drainage systems are functional ahead of the monsoon. She also stressed the need for timely desilting of drains and emphasised that nodal officers in waterlogging-prone zones would be held directly responsible for future lapses.

Reiterating her government’s commitment to civic welfare, the Chief Minister called for real-time monitoring and proactive field-level responses to monsoon challenges.
