Chandigarh Admn all set to raze Adarsh Colony slum today

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nishant Kumar Yadav today held a meeting to review the preparedness for the demolition of Adarsh Colony in Sector 54 here scheduled for tomorrow.

“The drive is aimed at reclaiming approximately 12 acres of government land currently under unauthorised occupation,” said the DC. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Police Department, Municipal Corporation, and the Engineering Department.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for a coordinated and lawful approach to ensure a smooth demolition operation.

The SSP, Kanwardeep Kaur, said there would be adequate police deployment at the spot for law and order management. Around 1,000 police personnel will be present at the slum during the demolition drive.

The Engineering Department has mobilised the machinery and manpower, including JCBs and dumpers, for the drive.

The representative of the Health Department said six ambulances along with doctors and paramedical staff will be deployed at the site to provide emergency medical support, if required.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the Administration’s commitment to fostering sustainable urban growth in the city. The 12 acres to be reclaimed after removing the slum will be utilised for developing public utility infrastructure in alignment with the Chandigarh Master Plan.
