Probe initiated into ‘sanitation scam’ of Manesar MC
After imposing a penalty of over Rs 9 crore on agency, which was awarded contractor to maintain sanitation in Manesar, the CM flying squad has initiated an investigation into the contract of the Manesar Municipal Corporation (MCM).
The agency — Akanksha Enterprises — had accused former Municipal Commissioner of corruption after she slapped Rs 4 crore fine on it for not delivering as per the contract. The complaint lead to her transfer and brought contract under scanner. The MCM conducted an internal inquiry into the matter. Later, the CM flying squad took over investigation after local RWAs alleged failure to maintain sanitation by the contractor in the city and exaggerated payments it.
“An investigation is being conducted on request of the Urban Local Bodies Department,” said an official of the CM flying squad. The contractor submitted an invoice of Rs 13.2 crore for services rendered from February to May this year. A sanitation standing committee reviewed work done by the agency between February 20, 2025, and May 19, 2025. A meeting was held on June 4 during which the committee recommended deduction of over Rs 9.17 crore from the agency’s Rs 13.17 crore bill, approving only Rs 3.9 crore for payment.
The contractor remained unavailable for comments, while Manesar Mayor Dr Inderjeet Yadav said, “The MCM area is in mess. Contractors take hefty charges and leave. There should be thorough probe into what the agency promised, what it delivered and how much amount was paid to it.”
