The Kangra police seized 200 boxes of country-made liquor from a Bolero pickup on Saturday night.
The driver of the pickup jeep has been arrested.
SP Ashok Rattan said that acting on a tip-off, a police team from Panchrukhi police station set up a blockade on Badhu Road between Panchrukhi and Andreta. Around midnight, they spotted a suspicious Bolero pickup approaching the area. The vehicle was searched, leading to the seizure of a large consignment of illicit liquor.
He said the police found 150 cartons of Santra brand and 50 cartons of Una No. 1 brand of country-made liquor, totalling approximately 18 lakh ml. The illicit consignment was seized, he said.
Rattan said the driver, Ankit Singh (26), a resident of Matt village in Kangra district, was arrested.
Police said the accused is being questioned to trace the source of liquor supply.
A case has been registered under Section 39(1)(a) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act at Panchrukhi police station. The Bolero pickup has been impounded, he added.
“Police patrolling and traffic checking are being intensified. Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in illegal liquor or drug trade,” the SP added.
