Father, son among four sentenced to life for killing jeweller in 2018
A district court in Jagadhri has sentenced four men, including a father-son duo, to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of local jeweller Sanjeev Khanna over a financial dispute involving cash and gold.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge Danish Gupta pronounced the life sentence for jeweller Vinod Suri, his son Yogesh Suri, and their accomplices Rohit and Gladbin. Each convict has also been fined Rs 50,000. “In default of payment of fine, the convicts will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment,” said Parveen Sharma, counsel for the complainant.
As per case details, Sanjeev Khanna, a jeweller from Jagadhri, had lent Rs 30 lakh and 13 kg of gold to fellow jeweller Vinod Suri. Despite repeated requests, Vinod and his son Yogesh failed to return the money or gold.
According to police investigation, Yogesh Suri hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Sanjeev and keep the assets. On June 29, 2018, Sanjeev Khanna went missing under mysterious circumstances. His son, Anand Khanna, lodged a missing person’s FIR at City Police Station, Jagadhri.
Subsequent investigations, including scrutiny of CCTV footage, led to the arrest of Yogesh Suri. During interrogation, Yogesh confessed to the crime and revealed that he, along with Rohit and Gladbin, had murdered Sanjeev Khanna using a clutch wire.
He also disclosed that the plot was orchestrated by his father, Vinod Suri. “My father called Sanjeev and lured him by saying that they would return the money and gold,” Yogesh told the police. Pretending they would travel to Panchkula to hand over the assets, the group instead killed Sanjeev en route and dumped his body in a field in Ambala district.
