Key plotter in social media influencer's murder Amritpal Singh Mehron fought Assembly poll on SAD(A) ticket

Amritpal Singh Mehron, the prime accused in the murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, is a self-styled vigilante and has a controversial past. Mehron, a Nihang, had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly poll from Tarn Taran in 2022 as a SAD (Amritsar) candidate.

Mehron, who is presently facing cases of violence, also leads radical organisation ‘Qaum De Rakhe’. He is very active on social media, having over 4 lakh followers on Instagram. He has even uploaded some videos of himself providing financial help to some needy families.

He was booked in 2020 for allegedly vandalising some statues of folk dancers at the Heritage Street near the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

As per his affidavit filed to the Election Commission in 2022, he works as a diesel mechanic. A resident of Mehron village in Moga district, he had allegedly made ‘threatening’ remarks to state Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.

A district unit president of the SAD (Amritsar) said their party president Simranjit Singh Mann was not in favour to field Mehron in the Assembly election, but another senior leader had recommended his name.

In some photos on social media, he is seen sitting beside jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh.
