The Kalinga Bharati Foundation and the Ministry of Culture celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Ram Tirtha at the auditorium of the Art Gallery here on Tuesday night.

The Kalinga Bharati Foundation and the Ministry of Culture celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Ram Tirtha at the auditorium of the Art Gallery here on Tuesday night.

The programme began by ‘jyoti prajwalan’ and paying homage to Swami Ram Tirtha. Students performed ‘Ganesh vandana’, and artists from different states also performed ghazal, kathak, bhangra and gidha.

On the occasion of the release of a book based on his life, Swami Sahadeep from Nirmal Swami Ashram, Amritsar, was also present.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
