16 booked for attack on Hindu leader

The city police have booked 16 persons under various sections of the Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with an incident in which the head of a Hindu organisation was attacked by his rival faction.

ASI Gurbhej Singh of the city police said that one Deepak Sood, who leads a faction of the Hindu organisation, was attacked on August 6 when he was at his shop during the night, over taking possession of the control over the historic temples of Tarn Taran town.

ASI Gurbhej Singh said that six of the accused have been identified as Dinesh Joshi, Aman Arora, Abhishek Arora, Katrik Chopra, Anmol Arora and Kailash Arora, residents of Tarn Taran town, led by 10 more armed men who attacked Deepak Sood.

There was a conflict between two factions of the Hindu organisation who were acclaiming themselves to the real officer-bearers. The tussle was over the control of historic temples situated in Tarn Taran town. The administration has appointed an administrator to manage the affairs of the temples more than six years back.
