The police on Friday arrested two of the 10 suspects, who have been named in an FIR registered in connection with the murder of one person and injuring another in Patti four days ago. The remaining eight suspects are on the run.
While addressing mediapersons here today, SSP Ashwani Kapur said the arrested suspects were identified as Dharaminder Singh, alias Parminder Singh, a resident of Valtoha, presently residing at Goindwal Sahib, and Rajan Singh Raju, a resident of Algo Kalan village. Four suspects, who are yet to be arrested, have been identified as Nishan Singh, a resident of Buraj Ra-Ke village, Dalbir Singh, a resident of Naurangabad (Tarn Taran), Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Batala, and his unknown relative. There were four other suspects involved in the crime, whose identity was yet to be established, the SSP said.
The police impounded the car used in the crime, the SSP added. The suspects dressed in the attire of Nihangs went to the residence of Shami Puri, a resident of Patti, and murdered him with kirpans. The victim’s nephew Amanapuri was injured in the attack.
A monetary dispute between victim Shami Puri and one Jatinder Singh, a resident of Batala, was cited as the reason behind the incident, the SSP said. He said the suspects were booked under Sections 103 (1), 333, 191 (3), 190 and 61 (2) of the BNS in this connection.
