Tarn Taran: The police seized 80 litres of lahan each from two persons in two separate villages of the district on Tuesday. Both the accused from whose houses the contraband was seized had been arrested from the spot. The police informed here on Wednesday that Jhabal police led by ASI Darbara Singh recovered 80 litres of lahan from the residence of Gurjant Singh of Kot Dharam Chand Kalan village. In the second incident, Goindwal Sahib police seized 80 litres of lahan from the residence of Nishan Singh, a resident of Kallha village. Cases under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act had been registered against both accused. oc

drug peddler held with opium

Amritsar: The police nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 2.550 kg of opium and drug money from his possession here on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Satnam Singh, alias Satta, a resident of Bhai Manj Road. Amandeep Singh, in-charge, Crime Investigating Agency (CIA), stated that a police team was on patrol to keep check on anti-social elements on Bhai Manj Road. The cops intercepted a bike and searched the person. Besides recovering the opium, 1.45 lakh drug money and the bike were seized from accused Satnam Singh. The police have registered a case under Sections 25, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and initiated further investigation.
