Two accused were injured in police firing during an encounter near Ramdas when they allegedly attacked a police team and tried to flee while being taken for weapon recovery.
The injured have been identified as Abhinash Kumar and Azad, both residents of Karnal. Both sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were admitted to a hospital for treatment. Under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Amritsar, Maninder Singh, and SP (Detective) Aditya Warrior, the operation was led by DSP (Detective) Gurinderpal Singh, DSP Ajnala Gurvinder Singh, Inspector Amandeep Singh (Incharge AGS), and SI Agyapal Singh, SHO Ramdas.
According to police sources, the duo had earlier attacked and injured a welding shop owner on October 8, 2025. In connection with that incident, FIR under Sections 109, 3(5) of the BNS and 25 Arms Act was registered at Ramdas police station. During the investigation, based on human intelligence, the accused Abhinash Kumar, Azad, and another accomplice, Tarjeet Singh, all residents of Karnal, were arrested from Karnal.
Today, when the police took Abhinash and Azad to the location for the recovery of weapons, the accused tried to escape and opened fire on the police team using a hidden pistol. In self-defence, the police returned fire, injuring both accused. The police recovered one .30 bore pistol, three live cartridges, and empty shells from the spot. During the investigation, it has also been revealed that the arrested accused were associates of the gangster Jeevan Fauji. Police officials stated that the duo was receiving financial assistance from Jeevan Fauji, who is believed to be operating from abroad.
Senior officials said further investigation is underway to trace the funding network and to identify other members of the gang. The police have intensified operations in the border areas to curb the movement of criminal networks receiving support from overseas.
