The city police have arrested two juveniles who attempted to break open an ATM of State Bank of India located on the Tarn Taran road here on Saturday. Influenced by social media, the two suspects wanted to earn quick money.
They learned the technique of breaking open an ATM from social media. But as soon as the alarm bells started ringing when they were trying to break open the ATM, they fled the spot. The police have recovered a scooter, two mobile phones and a hammer from their possession.
The incident came to light when the SBI branch manager, Maninder Kaur, informed the police about the incident. She said some unknown persons broke open the shutters and attempted to tamper with the ATM for stealing the cash.
Working on different theories, police teams later arrested the two juveniles. Dr Darpan Ahluwalia, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City-I), said during questioning, the duo said that they wanted to earn easy money and therefore they searched for different methods on social media.
The police have registered a case under Sections 457, 380 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code against them.
